Long wait for the Maruti Vitara Brezza, that made its debut at the Auto Expo 2016, will be launched today during an event in Mumbai. What makes it a really special product for is the fact that it’s the first ever model developed completely in India by its in-house R&D team. The Indo-Japanese carmaker will sell its first-ever sub-4 meter compact SUV via regular Maruti Suzuki dealerships and not Nexa. The Maruti Vitara Brezza will be positioned below the S-Cross to take on Mahindra TUV300, Ford EcoSport and soon-to-be-launched Tata Nexon.
Since the Vitara Brezza has achieved 98% of localization level, we expect it to be priced quite competitively against its rivals. Price for the base variant could be around Rs. 6.75 lakh, and could go up to Rs. 10 lakh for the top-end variant.
So how does the car compare with the key rivals? The Vitara Brezza will take on the (though that car doesn't necessarily have the exact same buyer profile), but in many ways the real rival is the , where the direct competition comes from. The Ford EcoSport arrived in mid 2013 and was a runaway hit. While sales may have slowed down now, it remains a bestseller and quite the segment benchmark - with no real rival given the , , and are a segment bigger. The Premier Rio, , and have tried to chip away at some of that though, but largely the EcoSport has held its own. And now suddenly we have the Mahindra TUV 300 and the Vitara Brezza driving in with some real competition. Ford has been hit by the Vitara Brezza launch for sure, and has significantly repositioned the EcoSport with massive price cuts. That just spices up this shootout further really!
After all the hype and buzz, Maruti delivered a hammer blow with the Vitara Brezza’s introductory prices — it retails from Rs 6.99 lakh to 9.68 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi. The Vitara Brezza gets driver-side airbag as standard, plus there’s an option to upgrade to passenger-side airbag and ABS-EBD with every trim level. Other fashion items like rain sensing wipers, reverse-parking camera, projector headlamp, Apple CarPlay, navigation, and music playback through all kinds of systems, from Bluetooth streaming, to USB, also find mention in the features list. It’s even got cruise control! The Vitara Brezza is a well-rounded vehicle with no acute handicaps for its intended purpose and segment placement. The Vitara Brezza has had such an impact that Ford, as a corrective, reactive measure, just yesterday, announced a massive price reduction for its EcoSport — the diesel model, which is comparable to diesel-only Vitara Brezza, now retails between 7.29 lakh to 9.75 lakh ex-Delhi, which achingly close to the fresh new Maruti here.
